About Us

The Diabetes Centre provides an important health service to people with diabetes and their families by promoting strategies associated with prevention, detection, treatment and management of the condition. Every year more than 60,000 people are diagnosed with diabetes and an additional 60,000 could develop diabetes but not realise. The centre aims to improve the health and well-being of all people with diabetes by offering a clinical service that includes health promotion, information, counselling, school visitation and support and education to all people affected by diabetes mellitus. Other services include specialised clinics and inpatient treatment. The health professionals within the Diabetes Centre at The Townsville Hospital strive to reduce the incidence and impact of diabetes in the community by providing: education and counselling services information, advice and support product recommendations parenting help and advice resource materials With assistance from trained health professionals, the education resource allows adults and children/adolescents with diabetes and their family to: achieve the best possible diabetes management develop a personalised management approach gain knowledge/skills to use this approach
