About Us

As national and international leaders in teleoncology models of care, our medical oncology service provides tertiary-level care in the outpatient treatment unit (day oncology), our inpatient oncology ward, consultation suites and clinical investigations.

Our clinicians work closely with other areas of the Townsville Cancer Centre to ensure the best possible care and treatment outcomes for our patients.

The medical oncology team provide a number of services including:

Drug treatments (cytotoxic chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, hormone therapy and other medical therapies) for patients with solid tumours
Consultancy services to other departments of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service and primary care providers
Chemotherapy and related supportive therapy, in a safe, and caring environment
Coordination of important support services such as GP liaison to help maintain continuity of care for patients
Psychosocial services, education and support groups to cancer patients and their carers/relatives
Telehealth treatment so, where possible, patients can receive their care in their home town closer to their homes and support networks
As a teaching hospital, our service offers staff an advanced training program. As part of the state-wide Medical Oncology Training Network, the health service is accredited for core training by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. You can also view the JMO Medical Oncology book here.
