Emergency Relief

Southcare’s emergency relief service assists those in the City of South Perth suffering immediate financial crisis by providing food relief, counselling and moral support.

Emergency relief service can assist you with basic needs during an immediate financial crisis. Some difficulties you may be having when you approach our emergency relief service include:

• Food shortage
• Inability to pay your electricity, gas or water bill
• Unexpected expenses associated with school holidays, family needs or medication resulting in you not having money for food or other necessities

When a person is assessed we did not give cash, we provide the following based on determined need:

• Provision of vouchers of a fixed value for the purchase of food.
• Provision of vouchers of a fixed value for the purchase of household goods or clothing from the Southcare Op Shop
• Assistance with an outstanding account (e.g. accommodation costs, medical expenses, utility accounts). Southcare pays the account of their behalf.
• Where appropriate, we may refer you to Southcare’s financial counselling service, and/or other appropriate Government and community services.
• Provide moral support and advocacy

This service is available to families and individuals living in the City of South Perth area which includes the suburbs of Karawara, Waterford, Manning, Como, Kensington, South Perth and Salter Point. If you live outside of these areas, we may be able to refer you to a service closer to you.
