About Us

Iaido is a traditional way to learn the Japanese sword. There is no sparring or contact in iai, rather an imaginary opponent(s). It uses preset movements with focus on posture and balance, fluidity and control. Various sword schools all use a standard set of patterns called kata. Each school has its own syllabus of kata and provides a fascinating insight into an ancient culture.

Iaido is a non contact, low impact, naturally covid safe pursuit and leads to a rich historical and cultural immersion in Japanese culture. All grades attained are internationally recognised. Whilst adhering strictly to the Japanese way of using the sword, we pride ourselves on having Australian values and classes are conducted in an amiable and fun atmosphere.

The City of South Perth Community hall we use boasts 130sq m of polished floorspace, men;s and women's toilets with handicapped access, a well lit and fully airconditioned venue.

Classes are held 6:30pm till 8pm Thursday nights - but keep in touch because we will be expanding our offering soon.

The art is suitable for men and women. Sensei is 6th dan, trained and graded in Japan.

The basic uniform will last 10 years or more and is easy care polyester. A wooden sword and scabbard are initially used then quickly move to a balanced aluminium replica sword. We can lend you a sword until you have committed to joining up.

Newcomers are very welcome and you will be methodically introduced to the art at a pace depending on you.

Thank you
