About Us

Otitis Media is the medical term for all forms of inflammation and infection of the middle ear and is the most common cause of hearing loss in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Aboriginal Health staff will attend schools and pre-schools to perform OM screening and/or provide OM education. The screening includes otoscopy, tympanometry and audiogram. The aim of the program is to reduce the number of children with hearing problems by screening them regularly and referring them to their GPs if necessary.
