Douglas Shire Aged Persons Homes was sent up by local people to provide affordable housing for pensioners in the Douglas Shire. Today we manage 48 properties.

Accessing DSAPH Inc housing at Alchera and Port Haven.

Douglas Shire Aged Persons Home Inc (DSAPH Inc) operates under the long term social housing program of the Queensland Department of Housing.  We provide accommodation at Alchera and Port Haven to eligible tenants according to property availability. Rent charged for these units is based on the tenants income calculated at 25% of assessable income plus all rent assistance.

To apply for housing go to the Department of Housing Website. Read the Eligibility for Housing assistance fact sheetand then fill out an application for the Department of Housing –http://www.hpw.qld.gov.au/SiteCollectionDocuments/Social%20housing%20forms/HaAssist.pdf.  If you require assistance filling out Form 7 please contact one of the local community centres. For question 1 tick all social housing that way DSAPH housing will be included.

When a vacancy comes up DSAPH Inc informs the Department of Housing. They send us a list of applicable priority applicants, who have met their criteria. We assess those applicants against our additional local criteria and match the best eligible tenant to the available property. 

DSAPH Inc eligibility criteria are: “The eligibility check will include the client having an approved application with the Department of Housing and Public Works, and be referred by the Department for consideration for a tenancy.  The client must also meet the additional eligibility criteria of DSAPH, and be the best match for the available property.

The eligibility criteria of DSAPH are:

• the applicant is over 55 years of age
• The Applicant must have some prior association with the Douglas Shire.
• The applicant is able to live independently with only minimum support from outside agencies.

 All tenants entering the long term social housing program will be housed for the duration of their needs.”
