About Us

The role of Indigenous Liasion Officers (ALO) are:?

  • To ensure provision of effective culturally appropriate health care to Indigenous patients?who present to the hospital in the Mount Isa health service district.
  • To provide a high-quality liaison service between Indigenous clients, staff of the Mount Isa health?service district and other government and non-government agencies.
  • Interpretation of medical terms, treatment regimes, and hospital procedures for Indigenous patients.
  • Participate in the discharge planning of Indigenous patients from Mount Isa Hospital.
  • Providing a link between the patient and their family while they are in hospital, e.g. telephone access.
