About Us

The Health Brain Ageing Clinic investigates how to reduce the risk of dementia through lifestyle intervention programs. It provides world-class research into the causes of cognitive decline in ageing and dementia.

Approximately 30 – 50 percent of the risk for developing dementia is modifiable, which means we can change it. This includes physical inactivity, obesity, hypertension, depression, stress and social engagement.

The clinic assesses participants’ current dementia risk profile and offers lifestyle interventions aimed at reducing this risk. The research will determine if improvements in memory, thinking and mood can be brought about by lifestyle interventions, and identify brain changes associated with improvement.

To be eligible to take part in the program, participants need to:

  • Be aged 50 – 70 years
  • Have no serious health conditions
  • Have no pre-existing psychiatric condition
  • Not currently have dementia
  • Be willing to have tests of medical functioning and cognition

After assessments are completed, a comprehensive report is sent to participants' GP so they can discuss their current dementia risk profile. Participants may be offered the opportunity to take part in the Healthy Brain Ageing Clinic's lifestyle intervention programs.
