FemiliPNG Australia

FemiliPNG Australia is an Australian non-profit that works in partnership with local and international organisations to prevent and respond to family and sexual violence in Papua New Guinea. Our key partnership is with Femili PNG, a leading Papua New Guinean NGO that provides free support services to survivors of family and sexual violence.

Since opening in 2014, Femili PNG have helped over 5,900 survivors to access:

• Safe accommodation for themselves and their children
• Legal support going to court, or obtaining protection orders
• Medical and financial assistance
• Support with relocations and family reunions
• Referrals to other services

Femili PNG now operate case management centres in Lae, Port Moresby and Goroka, as well as the Bel isi PNG safe house in Port Moresby. In addition to these services, Femili PNG also:

• Trains community leaders to assist survivors in their own communities. This ensures help is available in locations Femili PNG can't reach directly.
• Conducts outreach sessions in schools and communities to raise awareness about family and sexual violence and how to get help.
• Uses research-based advocacy to encourage stronger government responses to family and sexual violence in PNG.

FemiliPNG Australia provide critical technical support and additional funding to Femili PNG to extend their reach and impact. We do this by providing difficult-to-source skills in financial, data and IT management; project design and development; reporting; and communications. We also organise fundraising opportunities in Australia.

FemiliPNG Australia recognise that local people, local communities and local organisations are best placed to respond to the needs of Papua New Guinean families. That's why we put Femili PNG at the centre of all our work - with them leading the way, and us operating in support. As an Australian organisation, we do this by ensuring Femili PNG staff are represented on our Board and are involved in making all maior decisions about our organisation. We also help Femili PNG to secure funds directly where possible; and have a track record of passing responsibilities on from us to them.

Our close partnership with Femili PNG makes our impact stronger. Whilst Femili PNG provides expertise in case management and a deep understanding of the PNG context; FemiliPNG Australia provides a variety of technical skills to complement their work. This allows us to support the delivery of an extremely effective, high quality service for survivors of family and sexual violence in Papua New Guinea.
