About Us
Albert Park Flexible Learning Centre (APFLC) is a vibrant and dynamic learning community. Our community is developed through Operation by Principles. Through these principles we search for ‘common ground’ and use this to determine what we will do and how we will behave together. We challenge ourselves and each other. We are ambitious. We believe in the value and capacity of each person. We make goals. We forgive failures and celebrate success. Young People, staff, volunteers, family, friends and carers, along with our community partners, create a safe and caring space where we look to a hope filled future for all. All are welcome and you are invited to find out more about us.
History and Philosophy
APFLC began in 1990 at the Albert Park Amphitheatre as an education initiative by the Brisbane City Council for homeless young people. It was founded by Gwen Zietch. The school has been located at its current site at 1 Hale Street, Brisbane since 2004. APFLC became a registered school in 2006 and is now part of YouthPlus - Edmund Rice Education Australia, a national and unified network of Australian schools and educational entities.
Young people are central to their education and are consulted in all decisions affecting their education and engagement. APFLC is a community founded on the principles:
- Rights
- Respect
- Relationships
- Responsibilities
- Safe and Legal

Wellbeing
APFLC acknowledges the complex lives that young people lead and works to holistically engage with young people to support their educational needs. APFLC employs full time Youth Workers, Teachers, Arts Workers and Families Workers on site and maintains a broad community network of support agencies. We work with young people to explore and expand their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing as well as achieve educational outcomes. We sing, dance, play and laugh as we work through issues that arise either at school or in people’s private lives. Everyone at Albert Park works to achieve their own goals and we celebrate the achievements of others. We believe that we are stronger together and that by supporting each other we can achieve great things
