Mackay Street Chaplaincy
About Us
Mackay Street Chaplaincy is run by both volunteer & paid Chaplains from across the churches of Mackay and the wider community. We are on the streets Friday nights between 11pm & 2:30am and Saturdays -10:00pm - 3:30am (Sundays), offering a friendly caring presence, a listening ear, water, lollipops, first aid and practical assistance to stay safe. Wearing distinctive purple vests, volunteers patrol in pairs to assist people who may be at risk. Our aim is to ensure people stay safe while enjoying a night out. The full team (usually between four to six people) cooperates with Police, Ambulance, security personnel and taxi marshals, to provide a safeguard for vulnerable people, those who may be at risk or in need of assistance in our nightclub precinct. Training to become a chaplain happens at various times over the year. Please contact us to find out more.
