About Us
COVID19 UPDATE: The club is currently in recess but we hope to recommence activities on the 21st June with limited numbers.
North Pine Bush Poets Inc exists to further the knowledge and practice of Australian Bush Poetry. Bush poetry is defined as being of good rhyme and meter and about Australians, Australia and the Australian way of life. We meet the first and third Sunday of the month from nine til noon at Coutts Cottage, Old Petrie Town. The club boasts a number of champion performers and writers who are very happy to take newcomers under their wings to help with the development of their skills. Poetry and yarns may be performed from memory or read and all levels of ability are welcomed and applauded.
Take your first step in this satisfying pastime by making contact or just turn up!
We conduct one charity concert a year. Our last Charity Concert in November 2019 was in aid of the rural community of Winton, our sister city, and raised over $13000.00. The funds were dispersed to Winton Lions Club for use in that area including supporting womens mental revival issues, uniforms for school children and university bursaries. We would like to thank our Major Sponsor, North Lakes Sports Club, who generously provided their facilities free of charge.
Due to Covid19 it is unlikely that there will be a Charity Concert in 2020 and we are in the early planning stages for a Bush Poetry Festival in 2021.
As at June 2020 we are in the final stages of designing a new club website. We would like to thank Moreton Bay Regional City Council for the very generous grant that has made this possible.
North Pine Bush Poets are available to perform at community events, schools, nursing homes, retirement villages and functions of any sort at all. Workshops in creative formal poetry writing and performance techniques are conducted for members and guests from time to time. Mentoring in these skills by experienced poets is always available.
