General Volunteering Services

About Us

Grampians Health Ballarat has a strong and vibrant volunteer workforce, providing support and assistance to patients, clients, residents and their families, right across the organisation. To volunteer with Grampians Health no previous experience in a healthcare setting is required. We offer a range of flexible volunteering opportunities for 18+ age.

We currently operate approximately 25 volunteer programs in Ballarat, offering a wide range of opportunities including:

At the Base Hospital:

  • Welcoming and supporting visitors in areas such as the Emergency Department, Cancer Wellness Centre, Day Procedures Unit and Outpatients Clinics.
  • Providing comfort and care to parents and newborns through the Special Care Nursery Cuddle Program
  • Assisting patients and guests with navigation around the hospital as part of our Welcome Team
  • Helping raise funds by serving customers in the Base Gift Shop
  • Driving patients to and from cancer-related appointments using our fleet vehicles
  • Supporting older patients experiencing delirium through the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP)
  • Conducting patient satisfaction surveys to help improve services
  • Engaging patients with books and conversation via the Book Trolley service
  • Providing spiritual and pastoral care to patients and visitors during their stay
  • Acting as a simulated patient for medical educational purposes
