About Us
Meridian has been providing inclusive support, advocacy and referral services to older people in the ACT region for over 40 years. We support older people to access aged care and other services they may need in their community.
We particularly celebrate our LGBTQ+ elders and are committed to addressing the needs of older LGBTQ+ people, who face unique challenges, barriers and vulnerabilities.
Our services focus on reducing isolation and loneliness, and fostering connections, respect and understanding.
Navigating My Aged Care
We can help you navigate the aged care system through our free Care finder service.
Care finders support vulnerable older people to navigate the aged care system and find support services to improve your quality of life.
Care Finder is for all older people in the ACT region; you don’t have to be part of Meridian’s core communities to access this service.
This service is available for people aged 65+ and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50+.
Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme
Feeling alone? Find connection through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS).
Through this free service, older people are matched with a volunteer who visits them regularly to provide companionship and friendship.
ACVVS is available to people who are socially isolated and are receiving or waitlisted for:
- government-subsidised residential aged care services
- Support at Home packages.
ACVVS is for all older people in the ACT and surrounding region; you don’t have to be part of Meridian’s core communities to access this service.
However, we know that our rainbow elders face unique social challenges, barriers and vulnerabilities. We encourage them to access this service and be matched with volunteers who can help reduce social isolation.
ACVVS is funded by the Australian Government.
