At Mackay Advocacy Inc., we believe every person with a disability has the right to be heard, respected, and empowered. Since 1997, we have been providing free, independent, and confidential advocacy to people with disabilities across Mackay, Sarina, the Whitsundays, and the Isaac Region. Mackay Advocacy Inc. is a not for profit community service and is governed by a voluntary Management Committee.

We stand with you – resolving problems, navigating systems, and standing up for your rights. Our team listens, supports, and takes action to ensure your voice is heard. Whether you need help to exercise your basic human rights – especially if you feel exploited, neglected, or abused – or you're having trouble with your NDIS provider or other supports, we’re here. We can also assist if you're dealing with the appointment or revocation of a guardian or financial administrator, or if you’re involved with child safety services and feel like no one is listening. Whatever the issue, we’re here to help.

Accessing our service

We offer FREE independent advocacy services for people with disability through state and federal government funding.

There are no barriers to ethnic background or type of disability including those living with mental illness.

Referrals can be made by the person themselves (self-refer), family member, service provider, carer or support person to someone with a disability.

It is important to note however that if you are referring someone to us we are only able to act for that person if they wish us to do so.

Referrals are reviewed and prioritized according to levels of vulnerability and urgency. Making an appointment with an Advocate is essential.

Our service region

We provide Independent Advocacy services over several locations covering an area of 90342 km2 which encompasses Mackay, Whitsunday & Isaac Regional Councils.

These areas are:

• Proserpine
• Cannonvale & Airlie Beach
• Pioneer Valley
• Nebo, Moranbah, Dysart, Clermont
• Sarina south to St Lawrence
