About Us

Mackay Base Hospital provides Hospital in the Home care. This service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and allows eligible patients to be treated within the comfort of their own home. The hospital-level care is provided by Queensland Health nurses who work closely with doctors and allied health staff at Mackay Base Hospital.

Participation in Hospital in the Home care depends on the patient’s condition and treatment.

Some are directly admitted from the Emergency Department and others are inpatients who are transferred into Hospital in the Home care, to continue their treatment at home.

The service has the daily capacity for 23 patients and referrals are accepted within 40km radius of the Mackay Base Hospital.
