Queensland Maritime Museum Association

The Queensland Maritime Museum is located at the heritage listed historic South Brisbane Dry Dock.  The Museum’s major display is the internationally significant ex-naval frigate HMAS Diamantina.   The Diamantina is a River Class frigate built in Maryborough, Queensland, and commissioned in 1945 for service in World War II.  She is the only surviving vessel of the 135 of her class built by Allied navies during WWII.   She hosted the final surrender of WWII and after the war played a significant role conducting oceanographic research from 1959-80.

The Museum also features the steam tug Forceful, Jessica Watson’s yacht Pink Lady, the pearling lugger Penguin, the lightship Carpentaria and 50 other small boats.  An important collection of lighthouse artefacts from Queensland and the Northern Territory is displayed in the exhibition spaces.  Other displays trace the history of maritime exploration, navigation, women and the sea, wrecks and migration.  Many of the museum’s large collection of ship models are on display.

The heritage listed dry dock is open to inspection and is a truly unique experience – one of only a few docks world-wide that offer this opportunity.
