Stonnington Council has an approximate area of 26 km².

It is comprised of the suburbs of Armadale, Kooyong, Malvern, Malvern East, Prahran and Toorak plus parts of Glen Iris, South Yarra and Windsor.

It is surrounded by the councils of Boroondara City, Glen Eira City, Melbourne City, Monash City, Port Phillip City and Yarra City.

It is comprised of the state electorate of Malvern plus parts of Prahran.

It is within the federal electorate of Higgins.
